This three-DVD set contains copies of three PBS television specials:
Awake and Dream!, about Stella Adler, her teaching, and her life as an artist. Janis cites Stella as her most important influence, saying “She gave me words for what I felt about being an artist, and confidence that there is an inherent nobility in our work. She taught me more than I can ever express.” They met when Adler was 83 and Janis was 33, and the two were close friends until Stella’s death a decade later. Her effect on Janis was so profound that Janis’ autobiography is dedicated to her.
Harold Clurman: A Life of Theatre, an in-depth look at the director and his work. Called “the most influential figure in the history of the American theater” (PBS- TV), Clurman’s effect on contemporary theater continues.
Broadway’s Dreamers: The Legacy of the Group Theatre, which takes us through the history of “The Group”, its effect on the American theater and its actors and directors, and its eventual break-up, all of which contributed to the legendary discord between Stelle Adler and Lee Strassberg.
Bonus: a copy of the Strictly Solo CD, available only during our sale!
You cannot purchase these DVD’s anywhere; they are exclusive to our annual Pearl Foundation sale. Partly because of that, it’s very difficult to put a price on them, but we are setting it at $129.00 plus shipping and tax.
* If sold as a stand-alone, ships in a small flat rate box worldwide.
* Up to 3 items can be signed and personalized. Please place your request (don’t forget to include the name of whoever it’s being signed to!) in the “comments” box at checkout.
DVD set donated by The Stella Adler School of Acting, proud supporters of the Pearl Foundation. Tom Oppenheim, Stella Adler’s grandson, runs the school along with his wife, Nina Capelli. Janis has a yearly commitment to give master classes in acting there “...because Stella said to me one day – 'I am handing you the torch. You must teach.' And when Stella talked, I listened.”
